JBN Studio Review

This photography site was sent in for our browsing pleasure, and I’m a bit torn on this one. While it looks good, I’m not a huge fan of the nav, and the lack of photo viewing. The site looks good, obviously they have a designer who has a bit of flair for design, but the navigation a bit frustrating

Conceptually they’re aiming for a super high quality feature type thing, with super resolution photos even over 5000 pixels, by something. They also have their models come back for multiple shoots in some cases, using a stable of 19 models at this point.

Should be said that the girls come from all around the world, pointing to the use of multiple contributing or freelance photographers.

Since the pictures are the focus of the site, let’s have a good look.

They use covers like many other artistic photo sites do, though this time widescreen. Each has the number of pictures contained in the set, as well as the pixel size. They all say either 4000 or 5000px, and range from 30 to 100 pics per set.

Strangely enough, the pictures can’t be viewed on the site, but only downloaded as full sets to your computer in zip files. They have three different picture sizes to suit your bandwidth and preference. The set I’m looking at now has a 17mb set, a 67mb set and poster sized at a whopping 353mb. That’s a huge photo set! You’ll be scrolling, but the detail is magnificent. Perfect for viewing on your HDTV if you have one.

Clicking on the Galleries option on the top bar, it tells me there are 74 sets and provides some semi-hidden buttons for browsing. Now I get the navigation. They are indeed arrows, but just look like they’re part of the design. I just tried to click one and it’s all clear now. The buttons need some “next” and “back” text added so people will get it.

And now, the disappointment. The site seems temporarily broken and none of the content is accessible. I can’t even see a picture or a movie yet. We don’t hold it against them, as long as they get it fixed soon. I’ve sent the details to them, and it’s late at night, perhaps it’s temporary. I’ll finish this up when they get back to me. Sigh!

JBN Studio didn’t even last a year. Sad times my friends.
