Private actually searched us out to give us access to their site, not sure exactly how they found us. Certainly we’re happy to review their flagship adult site Private.com for inclusion here. I was expecting a big megasite with all the bells and whistles, and what I found here is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the cool stuff you’ll find here is Private’s extensive magazine section, a good number of streaming movies, photo galleries, and some nice little extras. The bad side is the somewhat troublesome navigation, the various upsells in the members area, and the medium-high but not overly great resolution on their magazine captures.
The best thing going at Private.com is the online magazines. Each print magazine scanned two pages at a time into JPG files. Simply find an issue you want to browse, and click to any page number you want. There’s also handy ‘next’ and ‘previous’ links from each page when you’ve enlarged it. In JPG even when enlarged, the images are 724×511 resolution. This could easily be doubled, and it would make for some amazing stuff. Thankfully the newest issues are offered in downloadable PDF files as well, allowing you to zoom in, etc. Definitely cool if you want to read some text from a page, or get a better look, no? 🙂
So what do we have here… The entire Private magazine collection from 1965 to present, 185 issues as of January 2005. The Pirate magazine from Private has 88 issues available. Triple X magazine, 61 issues. Sex magazine has 52 issues. Also included is a not to be missed Special Editions section, which contain themed magazines. Cleopatra, Sex Pistons, Millionaire, Private Lives Of, and some classic vintage stuff frmo the 60’s and 70’s. There’s also a number of full length books available on the site, containing Best Of Private books, etc.
On to the other parts of the site, the movies section contains WMV and QuickTime streamed videos, I wasn’t able to download any of them. They offer to sell you full-quality DVD-like videos if you really like a particular video, but the prices are pretty high if you ask me. $8.95 gets you access to the movie for 3 days, or 30 days for $12.71. They use Microsoft’s DRM (Digital Rights Management) software on the videos, so when your 3 days are up, the video becomes unplayable and basically useless. Use at your discretion!
The quality of the videos you get with a membership to this site is medium I’d say. Not horrible, but certainly average at best. Maximizing to full screen didn’t look very pretty. On the upside though, there are usually EIGHT scenes per video. With a couple of hundred movies available on the site, if you can deal with the quality there’s some great action here.
The photo sets are beautiful and well shot, but you only get like 15 pictures per gallery, which was a bit disappointing. Still, the pictures from the magazines should be more than enough to satisfy any picture hound.
A pretty good site, but you get the feeling all around that they’re not done selling to you. There’s options all over to buy more stuff, go to their store, their other sites, etc. Can’t really blame them I guess! The magazine section is really a great feature and what holds this site’s ranking up. Even though there are a ton of videos, the quality really needs to be a bit better. As an addition to the magazine archive though, they’re a nice feature. All depends on how you look at it, and what you’re expecting from this site.
