Playboy Plus Review

Playboy Plus is the main site of the most famous men’s magazine. If you’ve been surfing the web for a longer time, you’ve probably heard of Cyber Club, and might wonder what’s happened to it. Cyber Club was The Internet site of Playboy from 1995, and it is still alive. Since the Playboy Plus intro site has a big Cyber Club sign on the top, and the inside has Playboy Cyber Club as title, I’ve come to the conclusion that Playboy Plus has the same stuff, they just opened a second site for marketing reasons. I won’t go into evaluating that step of theirs, I have a much more important job – writing a review of an important and complex portal.

Let me write about the navigation first, as it is an important issue on such big sites. Playboy has many sites in fact, not just Cyber Club and Playboy Plus. You can use any of them to log on, you’ll always land at the same place, the centralized members gateway. This is where you can see all of your subscriptions, manage them, and reach them with a single click. If you have access to bonus sites, this is also the place to get to them. Playboy has loyalty programs, you can read up on them here. There are some extra links to the Playboy message boards, recent articles on Playboy.com, and the Playboy Store. The whole thing is quite simple and makes your life easier.

Playboy Plus is pretty massive, but that should be no surprise to anyone. I’ve included a screenshot. The main sections are Playmates, Cyber Girls, Celebrities, Coeds, Amateurs, Special Editions, Playboy Magazine, Playboy TV, More Girls, Extras. These menus have at least 6 articles (except Playboy TV, which is just a link to the free site).
The design is lovely, and navigation is user-friendly. At any given time, there’s an indicator on the top saying where you are, so you won’t get lost. For instance I’m at “cyber club / celebrities / super models / Carmen Electra” right now, and after I’m done viewing her photos, I’ll click on super models to choose another girl. There’s also a slideshow feature.

Playmates
All playmates are listed since 1953, they have a short article on them, and the centerfold photo plus the magazine cover are available. The playmates are listed too, but you only get a portrait of them unfortunately. Playmate Exclusives is a nice section, the members get a first look at the current playmate since 2000. These are basically video interviews and behind the scenes videos from the photo shoots.

Playmate of the year is extensive, the girls have the photos, behind the scenes footage, and what I appreciate the most, unpublished photos too. Video Jukebox gets an erotic, musical clip every week, featuring some playmate. Playmate Test Shots has photos of 24 girls. Playmate Xtra has a chance of becoming your favourite section, as this is the only place has HD clips – not too many yet though.

Some of the popular recent Playboy Playmates included are Ashley Massaro, Fabiola Campomanes, Charisma Carpenter, the WWE Divas – notably Torrie Wilson, Vida Guerra, Adriana Dominguez, Tricia Helfer and hundreds more, I can’t mention them all here!

Cyber Girls
Cyber Girls are exclusive models for the web. There are 100 quality photo sets here, but the newest girls have erotic clips in HD quality too.

Celebrities
This section has about 70 celebrities, each with a photo set. Plus there are “Women Of” sets, for instance America’s Sexiest Bartender 2006, Girls of MySpace, or Playboy Brazil
Tournament Cup Girls. It could be fun to view some older Playboy shots, especially in the few cases which have unpublished photos or behind the scenes videos too. It’s annoying that there are some galleries which the site doesn’t let you download (right click disabled). The section is a nice addition to the rest, but nothing like other celebrity paysites of course.

Coeds
This section has about 300 girls, each with a photo sets, and some of them have erotic videos too.

Amateurs
Casting Calls has a bunch of girls for each of the 61 casting locations. Even the amateurs are exceptional looking at Playboy. They only have a few photos each, plus backstage videos. Sex Cells is a fun section, girls make nude photos of themselves with their cell phones and send it to Playboy. The best ones get a new camera phone, but we are winners either way. 🙂 There are more sets in Rookie Babe, Employee of the Month, Sexy Girl Next Door, and Mardi Gras.

Special Editions
A few things here are already available from another menu. Lingerie, and the small Girls with Girls section doesn’t need an explanation. College Girls is pretty much lingerie as well. Nudes, Natural Beauties sections focus on the simpler images. S.E.X is for girls showing a little bit more of themselves than the usual Playboy standard, 81 sets in total. Then there’s Vixens and More Pictorials.

Playboy Magazine
You can browse classic photo sets, international picturials, old covers, and some interviews from Playboy are available as well.

Extras
Chat is a fun section, they hold online chat sessions with playmates regularly. You can also read the old ones’ transcripts. The Playboy message board is very popular, and there’s a newsletter as well.
They’re not listed here, but in my opinion they should be: you get access to 3 Adult.com plug-in sites, I Boobs, Petite Place, and Mature Sophistication.

I should mention the downsides too. Photography is obviously great, but a great percentage of stuff have a low resolution, and even the higher ones don’t come near the leading photography websites. I won’t go on about airbrushing and post-processing the images, you obviously like Playboy’s style if you’re reading this review. There are no ZIP downloads for the photo sets. Videos can only be watched online – except for the IPOD versions where available – that won’t satisfy HD lovers like me though. A complete, alphabetical list of models, and a model/gallery search function is missing.

Playboy Plus is updated daily with 1-3 sets, sometimes more. You should know that most sets here have less than 10 images, although those few are great.
It’s about time to write a conclusion. Playboy Plus is a large site, with premium photos. It’s a great step forward that they started adding high-def QuickTime files. Playboy fans can’t miss it. As for the others: if you’re looking for some exclusive Playboy content, go ahead with the subscription. However, if you’re a quality/download freak, you might get disappointed with the photo resolutions, and the fact that the HD clips aren’t downloadable. Either way, the price is great: 20$ monthly, or $98 for a year. You can also get a 5 day trial for 3$, but it rebills at 30$. I’m going to miss Ashley Massaro when my membership expires!
